Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
When working with my clients, I am curious, collaborative and empathetic. While I believe in being honest, I do so gently and with a dose of humor. Through our work together I will help you and your partner communicate with less defensiveness and criticism. You will learn how to bring up issues you are having in your relationship with a soft approach. This is done by exploring and talking about what you actually need in your relationship, instead of what you don’t. You will learn how to speak from a place of feelings and needs. The response you will get from your partner will be drastically different than one filled with defensiveness and counter attacks. My goal is to show you the importance of creating positive experiences with one another and build up your emotional bank account. This in turn will help you move through times of conflict more quickly and with less damaging communication.
Let’s talk about sex:
You will also be given tools for how to talk about sex and physical intimacy. Couples typically struggle with physical intimacy once they have passed the lust phase of their relationship or after children are born. Not only do couples struggle in the actual act of sex, they struggle talking about it. Feelings get hurt, rejection happens regularly and resentment sets in. If this sounds familiar then contact me, so I can begin to help you manage this important aspect of your relationship.
Working with couples who have recently become engaged is a passion of mine. Pre-marital therapy helps set a foundation that will be built upon over your years of marriage. Watching couples take a proactive approach to working on their relationship brings me a lot of joy. It also increases the satisfaction of your relationship and decreases the stigma of couples therapy. Because of the stage you are in in your relationship, you tend to work harder and make improvements at a much faster rate.
Individual areas of concern:
As we work together we may discover underlying issues that could be impacting the current relationship. For these reasons I also work with the following:
- Identity exploration and transition
- Chronic illness
- Grief and loss
- Life stage transitions
- Family of origin
